Manton Heights Care Home Gives Back to Local 999 Heroes

On Monday, 9th September, Manton Heights Care Centre in Bedford proudly participated in Emergency Services Day, often known as ‘999 Day.’ This national day, founded in 2016 by Police Officer Tom Scholes-Fogg, highlights the vital work of the UK’s emergency services and encourages responsible use of the services, educates the public on lifesaving skills, and promotes careers within the field.

Perched atop a hill in Bedford, our  residential dementia care home is deeply embedded in the local community. The residents and staff are passionate about supporting local groups, schools, churches, organisations, and especially their local emergency services, who are often seen in and around the home offering their invaluable support.

To show their appreciation for these local heroes, the residents and team at Manton Heights put together special “Hero Hampers.” These hampers were filled with treats and, most notably, included heartfelt handwritten notes from the residents themselves. The small but meaningful gesture was their way of saying thank you to the people who selflessly serve Bedford day in and day out.

Phil and Kate from the Bedford Ambulance crew were deeply moved, saying, “Thank you, it makes a big difference to be appreciated in this way. It’s lovely to receive this, especially the handwritten notes from the residents .”

The Bedford Police crew shared similar sentiments, expressing, “It’s a nice change to be recognised  for our work. Often, we interact with the public in stressful situations, so it’s wonderful to receive such appreciation.”

Steve, a member of the Bedford Fire Service, added, “Wow, this is a lovely visit. Thank you all so much, and please send our thanks to the residents.”

Sian, the Lifestyle Lead at Manton Heights, reflected on the day, saying, “It was an amazing and wholesome day, myself and

Melissa our Lifestyle Assistant were really happy to have been able to thank them for all the hard work they all do all year round, they all also mentioned that no one had appreciated them on this day and we were for the first to come and thank you personally.”
