Manton Heights Care Centre Marks 80th VE Day Anniversary with a Series of Memorable Celebrations

This May, Manton Heights Care Centre in Bedford paid tribute to the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with aheart-warming series of events that brought residents, families, staff, and members of the wider community together in celebration of remembrance, music, and camaraderie.

The week of commemorations began with a grand party, expertly hosted by Lifestyle Leads Sian and Melissa, featuring an uplifting performance by the ever-popular Jazz Songbird, a special visit from the British Legion, and enthusiastic participation from residents’ families. The atmosphere was filled with music, laughter, and shared memories of days gone by.

Our residents absolutely loved the performance and seeing the British Legion again,” said Sian, Lifestyle Lead at Manton Heights. “It’s incredibly meaningful to see how music and remembrance can bring generations together. The involvement of our families made it even more special — it felt like one big celebration of community.”

The commemorations continued with a relaxed afternoon gathering, where residents enjoyed VE Day-themed music, tasty snacks, and refreshments in a more intimate setting. These moments offered an opportunity for reflection and connection, sparking memories of wartime resilience and post-war hope.

The week concluded with a delightful cream tea party, welcoming residents from neighbouring care homes for a shared afternoon of socialising and sweet treats. Manton Heights was proud to represent RCH Care Homes  , with an impressive 45 attendees taking part in this final event.

Home Manager Vera expressed her pride in the team’s dedication and the impact the celebrations had on the residents: “These events are about so much more than marking a date in history — they’re about bringing people together, sparking joy, and creating new memories. I’m incredibly proud of our team for going above and beyond to make the week so special for everyone.”

Families were quick to share their appreciation, commenting on the hard work and enthusiasm of the activity team, and many even pitched in to help serve food and drinks during the party. The British Legion also expressed their delight in returning to Manton Heights and catching up with familiar faces like Melissa and Sian.

The success of the VE Day events has left everyone already looking forward to the next celebration, with the team at Manton Heights continuing to demonstrate their commitment to enriching the lives of residents through meaningful, community-focused experiences.
