Withens Nursing Home Goes the Extra Mile for Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk

Withens Nursing Home in Southfleet proudly organised a heartfelt and successful Memory Walk on Saturday 7th June in support of the Alzheimer’s Society. The 5KM walk, which took place in the picturesque Jeskyns Community Woodland, brought together care home staff, residents’ loved ones, local friends—and plenty of enthusiastic four-legged companions—for a meaningful day filled with connection, compassion, and community spirit.

The event was spearheaded by Activities Lead Nadia, who took the lead on every aspect of the day—from choosing the scenic location and mapping out the route, to encouraging participation, organising fundraising efforts, and hosting a celebratory after-party for all involved.

“I wanted the Memory Walk to be something that brought everyone together for a cause close to our hearts,” said Nadia. “It was important to me that our residents, team, and local families could join in or support in any way they could. To see it all come together and raise more than double our original target has been incredible.”

The home originally hoped to raise £300, but thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of participants and supporters, they have already raised an impressive £600—and donations are still coming in.

In true Withens spirit, residents at the home were keen to be involved in the run-up to the event, getting creative with handmade banners and signs. Their words of encouragement were carried with pride during the walk.

“Do us proud” – Shirley, 88
“Good luck one and all!” – Hillary, 77

Lee, General Manager at Withens Nursing Home, added:
“I’m incredibly proud of Nadia and the whole team for the effort and heart they’ve put into this event. It’s a wonderful example of how we do things at Withens—with teamwork, care, and a real sense of family. It was inspiring to see everyone come together, all in support of a cause that touches so many lives.”

Withens Nursing Home would like to thank everyone who walked, donated, and cheered them on. The success of the Memory Walk not only highlights the importance of raising awareness for Alzheimer’s but also celebrates the strength and unity of their care home community.
