Park View Care Centre Steps Up for the Salvation Army

Park View Care Centre in Ashford is putting its best foot forward this summer with an inspiring fundraising challenge that’s uniting the entire care community — staff, residents, families, and friends are taking part in a virtual Walkathon to raise awareness and funds for The Salvation Army.

Launching on 1st July 2025, the team at Park View will collectively walk the equivalent distance from John o’ Groats to Land’s End — a staggering 874 miles, or 1,846,688 steps! Whether it’s a stroll through the gardens, laps around the lounge, or pacing the corridors with determination, every step counts as the home sets out to raise £2,000 for The Salvation Army’s vital work supporting individuals facing homelessness, poverty, and crisis across the UK.

The Walkathon isn’t just about fundraising — it’s about connection, movement, and purpose. The initiative brings residents and team members together for a shared goal, with the added bonus of promoting physical activity, wellbeing, and community spirit.

Darren Humby, Park View’s General Manager, shared his thoughts on the event:

“We’re really proud to be taking on this challenge. It’s a fantastic way to bring everyone together, have some fun, and do something meaningful for a cause that truly matters. The Salvation Army does life-changing work every day, and we’re walking in support of that — every mile brings us closer not just to Land’s End, but to making a real difference.”

Everyone is welcome to get involved — by logging steps, offering encouragement, or donating to support the team’s journey from the top of Scotland to the tip of Cornwall. The home is also planning coffee mornings.

Because at Park View, we walk with purpose — and we walk together.
