Residents at Woodlands Care Centre recently enjoyed a visit from Dementia Friendly Barbers, a specialist team trained in dementia-friendly grooming and
barber therapy. The team’s approach goes beyond standard haircuts, offering a person centred and professional grooming experience in a soothing and respectful atmosphere.
Over the course of the day, gentlemen at the Woodlands Care Centre received personalised services including haircuts and shaves, with conversations, connection and moments of reminiscence woven throughout. The sessions helped spark engagement and brought smiles, while creating meaningful experiences that residents and staff thoroughly enjoyed.

Sarah, Lifestyle Lead at Woodlands, added: “Barber therapy isn’t simply about grooming — it’s about preserving dignity, sparking conversation and nurturing connection. The team were gentle, patient and intuitive, and residents loved the personalised attention. Feedback from families has been incredible, and we’re already excited for their next visit.”
Woodlands Care Centre continues to work with community partners to bring innovative, person-centred experiences to life, enhancing daily life for residents across all levels of care.
Claudia Toscano, Customer Relationship Manager at Woodlands Care Centre, said: “We were delighted to welcome Dementia Friendly Barbers to Woodlands.
Their specialist approach ensured every resident felt comfortable and respected, and it was heart-warming to see how engaged the gentlemen were throughout the day. Experiences like this truly support wellbeing and create meaningful moments that everyone remembers.”
The visit also offered an opportunity for the senior leadership team at RCH Care Homes to speak with Dementia Friendly Barbers about how barber therapy could be expanded to more homes within the group.
