Brentwood Care Centre has introduced a brand-new monthly indoor market, bringing shopping, choice, and community spirit directly into the home — all thanks to
an idea inspired by residents themselves.
The concept was born from conversations within the home, where residents expressed how much they valued the experience of browsing and choosing items for themselves. Wanting to support this independence and recreate a familiar activity, Lifestyle Co-ordinator Angie took the idea forward and began organising what has now become a regular monthly event.
The indoor market offers a variety of stalls, allowing residents to explore, select, and purchase items they genuinely want and enjoy — particularly meaningful for those who may not be able to get out into the local community as often as they once did.
Adding a special personal touch, the family of resident Barry Moss kindly created a bespoke market banner, helping to bring the vision to life and give the space a true market-day feel.
Maria, General Manager at Brentwood Care Centre, said: “It has been wonderful to see this idea come directly from residents and then come to life in such a positive way. The indoor market is more than just shopping — it’s about independence, familiarity, and creating opportunities for residents to make their own choices. The atmosphere on the day has been fantastic, and it’s something everyone now looks forward to each month.”
Rhiannon, Customer Relations Manager, added: “This is a great example of what can be achieved when residents’ voices are
truly listened to. The market brings people together, encourages interaction, and gives residents the chance to enjoy something that feels normal and meaningful. It has quickly become a real highlight within the home.”
With the success of the first markets, the monthly event is set to continue growing, further enriching life at Brentwood Care Centre and reinforcing the importance of resident-led initiatives.
