Brentwood Care Centre Promotes Health and Warmth at Winter Wellness Day

Brentwood Care Centre joined the local community for the Winter Wellness Day, an initiative organised by Brentwood Borough Council to help residents stay safe, warm, and well throughout the colder months.

The event welcomed visitors to enjoy a day filled with information, support, and hearty food. Brentwood Care Centre provided a delicious selection of dishes, including half-and-half Quorn and mince spaghetti bolognaise and a butter bean, bacon, and tomato stew with pan-fried cod. Guests were also treated to a free lunch of butternut squash and parsnip soup with warm bread rolls; all prepared by RCH Care Home’s Executive Chef, Oliver Clothier.

Supporting the event, Rhiannon McNeill, Customer Relations Manager, helped serve food, meet visitors, and share advice on wellbeing. “It was wonderful to be part of the Winter Wellness Day and meet so many members of our local community. The event created such a positive atmosphere, and it was lovely to see people coming together to learn new ideas about healthy eating and staying well over the winter months. It was also a pleasure to be able to provide meals for people to take home with them; several visitors shared that they don’t often cook, either because they live alone or because they’ve lost a loved one. For us to be able to offer a warm, nutritious meal for that evening was truly heart warming.”

Alongside serving up comforting food, Oliver delivered an engaging talk on nutrition, focusing on the importance of maintaining a balanced diet during winter. He discussed high-protein foods, the benefits of complex and simple carbohydrates, and practical ways to prepare healthy meals for one or in batches. Visitors were also given easy-to-follow recipes to try at home.

Oliver Clothier, Executive Chef, said: “I really enjoyed sharing some simple, nutritious meal ideas with everyone at the event. Cooking for one or preparing food in  batches doesn’t have to be complicated, and it’s such an important way to make sure people can always enjoy a hot, healthy meal. It was great to see how interested those who attended the event were in learning more about nutrition and trying new recipes.”

Maria Siia, General Manager at Brentwood Care Centre, added: “We’re always proud to be part of events that bring our community together. The Winter Wellness Day was a fantastic way to share practical tips, offer support, and remind people that small acts of care, like sharing a warm meal, can make a big difference. It reflects what we strive for every day at Brentwood Care Centre: compassion, connection, and wellbeing.”
