Diwali Celebrations Shine at Withens Nursing Home

Withens Nursing Home was glowing with colour, culture, and community spirit as residents, families, and team members came together to   celebrate Diwali — the Festival of Lights.

The home was beautifully transformed for the occasion, setting the scene for a day filled with vibrant activities and celebrations. Residents explored a colourful dressing-up station featuring traditional Indian outfits, enjoyed creating rangoli patterns, and took part in Diya decorating and henna art. A highlight for many was the opportunity to experience tarot card readings, which sparked curiosity, conversation, and lots of smiles.

No celebration would be complete without delicious food, and the Diwali feast was a true treat. Everyone shared a variety of traditional Indian snacks, curries, and sweets, adding even more warmth and authenticity to the festivities.

The team at Withens would like to extend heartfelt thanks to several local supporters who helped make the day so special.

  • Spices Indian Grocery Store in Peacock Street, Gravesend, generously donated decorations, diyas, candles, and treats, adding an extra touch of brightness to the event.
  • Barfia Gravesend on Wellington Street provided a beautifully presented box of traditional Indian sweets that quickly became a resident favourite.
  • Theresa Janday from Love Authentic Me delivered enchanting tarot readings that captivated residents and families throughout the day.

General Manager Gurpreet Vara shared:
“Diwali is a celebration filled with light, joy, and togetherness, and it was wonderful to see so many residents and families enjoying the day. The atmosphere throughout the home was truly special — full of colour, laughter, and connection. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making the event such a memorable occasion.”

The atmosphere was full of laughter, celebration, and togetherness — a wonderful reflection of what Diwali represents. It was a day enjoyed by all and one that will be remembered fondly at Withens Nursing Home.
