Intergenerational Reading Sessions Bring Smiles to Residents

Residents at Romford Care Home have been enjoying heart-warming visits from children at Broadford Primary School, who have spent the past few weeks reading aloud and sharing stories with those living at the home. The thoughtful partnership has quickly become a highlight for everyone involved, filling afternoons with laughter, conversation, and a wonderful sense of connection.

Teachers at Broadford Primary School shared that the children are not only thriving socially through the experience, but their reading skills have noticeably improved. The children have been eagerly looking forward to each visit, excited to spend time with the residents and grow in confidence as young readers.

Tracy Smith, Customer Relations Manager, echoed the sentiment: “The partnership with Broadford Primary School has been wonderful. The children bring such enthusiasm, and the residents gain so much from spending time with them. It’s lovely to hear how much the pupils look forward to coming, and knowing it is helping to boost their reading confidence is a fantastic bonus. These moments of shared connection are what make the home feel so vibrant.”

The team at Romford Care Home looks forward to welcoming the children back for more story-filled afternoons, celebrating the power of reading, friendship, and community across generations.

Romford Care Home’s Manager, Maddie Ilie, shared just how meaningful the sessions have been: “These visits have been truly special. Seeing the residents’ faces light up as the children read to them has been incredibly heart-warming. The room fills with such happiness and energy. It has given residents a chance to reminisce, engage, and enjoy the company of young people in a really natural and joyful way.”
