Residents, families, and staff at Maidstone Care Centre came together to celebrate Chinese New Year with a vibrant mix of cultural traditions, delicious food, and engaging activities. The home was adorned with beautiful decorations crafted by residents in the lead-up to the celebrations, including traditional Chinese lanterns and symbolic imagery representing prosperity and good fortune.
In the days leading up to the festivities, residents enjoyed themed activities such as learning about
the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac and discovering which sign represented their birth year. These activities sparked lively discussions, with many reminiscing about past New Year celebrations and sharing stories about their zodiac animals.
On the day itself, the atmosphere was filled with excitement as residents, their families, and staff gathered in the lounge to enjoy a feast of traditional Chinese dishes. The menu included crispy spring rolls, flavourful noodles, and a selection of stir-fried meats and vegetables, all prepared to bring the tastes of the occasion to life.
Families who joined the celebrations shared their appreciation for the effort put into making the day so memorable. Ruth Wylie, daughter of a resident, said:

“Thank you, Belinda and staff, for getting the residents into the lounge for Chinese New Year! The Chinese food was yummy, myself and Mum enjoyed ourselves! The decorations looked great, and thank you, Belinda, for all your hard work.”
Sally Tourret also expressed her gratitude, saying: “Thank you for a lovely afternoon celebrating with some lovely food. Well done, Belinda and helpers!”
Belinda, the Lifestyle Lead at Maidstone Care Centre, reflected on the joy of the celebration: “It was wonderful to see our residents and their families enjoying the festivities together. We always strive to make these cultural events as immersive and engaging as possible, and seeing everyone smiling, sharing stories, and enjoying the delicious food made all the effort worthwhile.”

The Chinese New Year celebration at Maidstone Care Centre was a fantastic opportunity to bring people together, celebrate different traditions, and create meaningful moments for residents and their loved ones.
