Manton Heights Care Centre in Bedford recently held its much-anticipated Summer Fete, a vibrant celebration of community, connection, and creativity that residents, families, and visitors will remember for a long time to come.
The event was officially opened by Mayor Tom Wootton and Mayoress Elizabeth, who were joined by local MP Mohammad Yasin. Adding to the excitement,
archaeologists Steven and Elizabeth Cockings visited to share details of their upcoming excavation of a Roman villa site beneath the home. Their plans to publish a

book and display artefacts within Manton Heights promise a fascinating future project for residents and the community.
The fete was brimming with charm and variety. Guests browsed an array of stalls selling handmade gifts, puzzles, knitted items, and bags, while enjoying homemade cakes baked by team members Sian and Melissa, alongside a sizzling barbecue. With fun games, a lively raffle, and the warm sounds of Bedford Health Radio helping to broadcast the day, the event had something for everyone.
Speaking about the success of the day, Vera, General Manager at Manton Heights Care Centre, said:
“Our Summer Fete is always a highlight of the year, but this year felt extra special with the involvement of our local dignitaries and community partners. Seeing residents, families, and neighbours enjoying the stalls, food, and entertainment was wonderful. At Manton Heights, we are proud to be part of such a supportive and caring community, and events like this show the joy that comes from coming together.”
Sian, Lifestyle Lead at Manton Heights, added:
“The atmosphere on the day was fantastic – the laughter, the conversations, and the smiles said it all. It’s a privilege to help create these experiences for our residents, and it was heart-warming to see them enjoying the company of family, friends, and our wider community. The archaeologists’ plans also bring an exciting dimension for the future, and we can’t wait to see where that journey takes us.”![]()
