On Saturday, December 7th, Orchard House Care Home in Wisbech hosted its much-loved annual Christmas Fete, spreading festive cheer and creating magical memories for residents, families, and the wider community.
The day was filled with joy as the star attraction, Father Christmas, made a special visit to his beautifully decorated grotto. Young and old alike were thrilled to spend time with him, eagerly sharing their Christmas wishes and ensuring they were on his “Good List.” Santa was supported by Julie, Tesco’s Community Champion, who generously handed out presents to delighted children after their chats with Father Christmas.
Adding to the occasion, the Mayor of Wisbech, Councillor Sidney Imafidon, graced the fete with his presence, enjoying the festive atmosphere, meeting residents and visitors, and sampling delicious mince pies while exploring the stalls.
The event was further made special by Orchard House’s own resident Santa, Wally, who spread extra holiday joy by handing out sweets to children and lending a helping hand to the “real” Santa. Wally added, “I love doing this for the children—it’s so nice to see their happy faces.”

Despite the rainy weather forcing the cancellation of the planned donkey visit, the spirit of the day remained warm and bright. Visitors browsed the stalls, indulged in festive treats, and enjoyed the grotto’s charm between rain showers.
Residents were equally thrilled by the day’s activities. Glenda shared, “I really enjoyed looking at the stalls and seeing the children’s smiles when they met Father Christmas.” While Joy commented, “It was so nice to buy gifts for my family without having to go out in the horrible weather.”
Activity Coordinator Phoebe added a touch of magic by capturing professional photographs of families meeting Santa, offering them a keepsake to cherish. “It was wonderful to capture those moments and give families something special to remember,” she said.
Lifestyle Lead Miranda reflected on the day’s success: “Despite the weather, it was incredibly humbling to hear all the positive feedback from everyone who attended. Our team worked so hard to make this a special day, and it was truly rewarding to see the joy it brought to so many people. We can’t wait to do it again next year.”
