Orchard House Care Home Marks 80th Anniversary of VJ Day with Vintage Afternoon Tea

Orchard House Care Home in Wisbech was proud to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the War in the Far East during World War II on Friday 15th August. The commemoration coincided with the home’s monthly company café and brought together residents, families, staff, and members of the community to remember and honour those who served and sacrificed.

To mark this significant occasion, the home hosted a Vintage Afternoon Tea Garden Party, with the garden beautifully decorated for the celebration. Residents and guests enjoyed a wonderful live performance from the Hereward Ukulele Group, filling the afternoon with music, laughter, and singalongs. Flags were waved, voices were raised in song, and the atmosphere struck the perfect balance of joy and remembrance.

Lifestyle Lead, Miranda Robinson, added:
“It was an honour to bring people together for such a meaningful anniversary. The music, the decorations, and the company café created a special space for reflection as well as celebration, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the day.”

The Mayor of Wisbech joined the home for the event, alongside residents and their families. Orchard House’s hospitality team ensured the afternoon felt truly nostalgic, serving a spread of traditional cakes and treats that perfectly complemented the vintage theme.

Resident, Liz Loates, shared:
“It was a wonderful afternoon and everyone looked like they enjoyed themselves.”

Home Manager, Sarah Watson, said:
“It was a lovely afternoon with such wonderful entertainment, and great to see the community coming together.”

The afternoon was a memorable tribute to those who served, while also highlighting the strength of community spirit at Orchard House  .
