Staff, residents, and families at Park View Care Centre in Ashford have successfully completed their incredible Walkathon challenge, virtually walking from Land’s End to John o’ Groats – and they’re not stopping there!
The ambitious challenge began back in July and saw the Park View community collectively take an amazing 1,846,688 steps, raising £300 for the Salvation Army. The initiative brought residents, staff, and relatives together, encouraging positive emotional and physical wellbeing, combined with a shared goal; all in support of a worthy cause.
The response from the Salvation Army was heart-warming, with a spokesperson saying:
“What an incredible challenge – thank you for sharing. Every step is making a real difference. Huge cheers to the whole Park View team for walking with such purpose and heart.”
The team enjoyed the experience so much that they’ve decided to continue the journey. The next virtual challenge? Walking from John o’ Groats to the North Pole – a distance of 2,100 miles or 4,725,000 steps!
General Manager Darren Humby said:
“We’ve all enjoyed the challenge – it’s been such a great way to bring everyone together, get active, and do something positive for the community. Our residents, staff and families are excited to keep going – and we’ll be keeping track of every step along the way to the North Pole!”
The Walkathon highlights the strong community spirit at Park View Care Centre and their commitment to promoting physical and emotional wellbeing. With the next goal now set, the team is lacing up their walking shoes once again – and heading (virtually) for the Arctic!
