Park View Care Centre in Ashford is delighted to announce the launch of the Alzheimer’s Society’s “Singing for the Brain” sessions, held at 14:30
on the last Thursday of each month. This initiative is part of the home’s ongoing commitment to providing exceptional nursing and dementia-focused services and facilities to residents and the local community.
“Singing for the Brain” is a program designed to bring people affected by dementia together to sing a variety of songs they know and love in a fun and friendly environment. The sessions also include vocal exercises that help improve brain activity and wellbeing.
General Manager Darren Humby, who brings over 30 years of healthcare experience to Park View, expressed his enthusiasm for the new program:
“We are thrilled to introduce ‘Singing for the Brain’ to our residents and the wider community. Music has a profound impact on individuals living with dementia, offering therapeutic benefits that enhance cognitive function and overall quality of life. This initiative aligns perfectly with our dedication to providing comprehensive, person-centred care.”
Park View Care Centre is purpose-built to support residents in living happy, fulfilled, and comfortable lives. The facility offers residential dementia care, nursing care, and end-of-life care, with features such as open-plan lounges, spacious en-suite bedrooms, and landscaped gardens designed for accessibility.
The introduction of “Singing for the Brain” complements Park View’s existing dementia-friendly activities, which are tailored to support residents in experiencing happiness, comfort, and contentment. By fostering positive reminiscence and creating a safe environment, the care home encourages both familiar and new activities that promote engagement and wellbeing.
The Alzheimer’s Society highlights the benefits of such programs, noting that singing can improve brain activity, wellbeing, and mood. Participants engage in fun vocal warm-ups and sing a wide variety of familiar and new songs, providing opportunities to express themselves, feel positive, and make new friends.
Darren Humby added, “Our team is committed to exploring innovative ways to enhance the lives of those we care for. ‘Singing for the Brain’ is a testament to our proactive approach in adopting evidence-based practices that make a tangible difference.”
The sessions are open to anyone from the local community affected by dementia. For more information or to participate in the upcoming “Singing for the Brain” sessions, please contact Park View Care Centre at 01233 527 518 or via email at care.parkview@rchcarehomes.co.uk.
