Park View’s Lifestyle Team Undertake Specialist Dementia Training

Lifestyle Team Members, Val and Gina at Park View Care Centre Start Their Insightful D.O.V.E.S Training

“The 12-session programme has been very informative and has allowed us both to grow in our understanding of supporting individuals living with Dementia.”

We are thrilled to share that more staff members at RCH Care Homes are embarking on a journey of career progression and self-development. Our dedication to providing the highest quality services for residents inspires us to introduce innovative programmes like D.O.V.E.S (Development through Observation, Validation, Enrichment, and Sharing of Knowledge with others).

At RCH Care Homes, we strive to promote excellence in dementia care practices. Working with residents who have dementia requires a heightened level of dedication and understanding; their unique needs must be effectively met with compassion and expertise. By participating in the D.O.V.E.S programme, our staff members will gain a deeper insight into the characteristics, behavioural challenges, and needs of residents living with dementia.

Lifestyle team members Val and Gina are currently working towards completing the 12-session programme at Park View Care Centre. Since joining the team, Gina and Val have shown a strong commitment to creating the best experiences for residents, engaging them in various activities and fostering a homely, lively, and welcoming environment, all while demonstrating compassion and kindness. As they progress through their training, they have described it as both insightful and informative.

Life Style Lead Val explained the benefits of the training further, “We have gained knowledge, insight and so much confidence to allow us to become Dove Dementia Ambassadors for Park View- sharing our knowledge with all our colleagues under the tutelage of renowned Dementia expert Tim Forrest-Morgan. We are now using what we have learnt within the home, such as enhancing our mealtime experience using living herbs as our table decorations in the dining rooms, which not only looks great but gives the residents the ability to explore texture and smell and allows them to water and care for the plants.  It promotes the use of both sensory and life skills, encourages communication, gives residents a purpose by looking after them and we can then build upon this experience by giving them the opportunity to lay or clear the tables, pour drinks for others and so much more. Both myself and Gina are so pleased to have been given this opportunity to support all our residents who are living with Dementia”.

The D.O.V.E.S programme has been a tremendous success at RCH, enhancing our teams’ skills and guiding them to become experts in dementia care. Team members who have completed the programme have described it as an eye-opener and are eager to share their newfound knowledge with others.

We are delighted to see Val and Gina fully embrace the programme and apply what they have learned in their daily interactions with residents. We look forward to them completing the training and receiving their certificates very soon.
