Withens Nursing Home Welcomes the Community for a Wonderful Care Home Open Week Celebration
Residents, families, friends and members of the local community came together for an unforgettable afternoon as Withens Nursing Home in Southfleet opened its doors to celebrate Care Home Open Week with a spectacular Bridgerton-themed garden party.
The event transformed the home’s gardens into a scene of elegance and celebration, with glorious sunshine providing the perfect backdrop for an afternoon filled with music, laughter and meaningful community connections.
Guests enjoyed a delicious selection of homemade afternoon tea favourites, including finger sandwiches, savoury pies, traditional cakes, sweet treats, refreshing lemonades and freshly brewed tea, while live entertainment created a wonderful atmosphere throughout the afternoon.
The event offered something for every generation. Children delighted in taking part in Bridgerton-inspired mask making and biscuit decorating, proudly showcasing their creative talents, while residents enjoyed spending quality time with visiting families and making new memories with members of the local community.
One of the highlights of the day was a visit from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, whose crew brought a fire engine for visitors to explore. The firefighters fully embraced the spirit of the event by donning sparkling tiaras, much to the delight of residents and younger guests alike, creating plenty of smiles and memorable photographs.
Care Home Open Week provides an opportunity for care homes across the country to welcome their communities, showcase life within their homes and challenge perceptions of later life care. At Withens Nursing Home, the event reflected the home’s commitment to creating opportunities for residents to remain connected with the wider community while celebrating the friendships that make the home such a special place.

We wanted to create an event that brought generations together, celebrated our residents and showed what life at Withens Nursing Home is all about. It was fantastic to see residents, families, children, community members and our local firefighters all enjoying the day together. The smiles, laughter and conversations shared throughout the afternoon perfectly captured the warm, welcoming atmosphere we are so
proud of.”
