Spring is blooming early at Withens Nursing Home in Southfleet, where residents have kicked off their gardening season from the comfort of the home’s bright and airy conservatory!
With the unpredictable weather outside, the conservatory has become a perfect greenhouse space to begin nurturing flowers and plants in preparation for summer. One of the most exciting activities underway is the home’s sunflower-growing competition — and after just two weeks, residents (and their plants!) are already thriving.
Each resident has their own sunflower to care for, and the friendly competition is sparking plenty of smiles and excitement. The prize? Bragging rights for the tallest sunflower and the joy of seeing their hard work bloom in the home’s garden once it’s warm enough to plant them out.
Nadia, Lifestyle Lead at Withens, shared:
“It’s been a lovely way to bring everyone together. The residents have really taken ownership of their sunflowers, and now they’re even more eager to get outside and show them off in the garden!”
Lee, the home’s General Manager, added:
“This is what we’re all about at Withens – creating meaningful moments and experiences. Watching everyone get so engaged in this simple but joyful activity has been brilliant.”
With spring in the air and sunflowers on the rise, there’s a real sense of anticipation at Withens – and a sunny summer to look forward to!
