Young Volunteer Brings Music and Joy to Residents at Queens Court Care Home

Here’s Jayden with his Nan and Liza at Queens Court’s VE Day celebrations

At just 10 years old, Jayden Melius from Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School is already making a big difference in the lives of residents at Queens Court Care Home. Since January, Jayden has been volunteering every Monday afternoon, bringing with him kindness, conversation, and his self-taught piano skills.

Jayden first approached the home at the beginning of the year, asking if he could volunteer after school. Accompanied by his proud nan, he now spends each Monday reading stories, helping with quizzes, chatting with residents, and treating everyone to a performance on the piano.

Lifestyle Lead Liza Street shared, “Jayden’s visits have become a real highlight for our residents. His confidence, compassion, and musical talent are a joy to witness. The residents light up when they see him walk through the door. He’s thoughtful, respectful, and naturally builds friendships with everyone here.”

Residents look forward to the time they spend with Jayden, whether it’s listening to him play or simply chatting about their own life stories. He also joins them for a well-deserved treat at the end of each session—sandwiches and cake, shared in good company.

General Manager Daniela Caprioara said, “Jayden is an exceptional young man. His willingness to give up his time each week to connect with and support our residents is truly heart-warming. He has become part of the Queens Court family, and we are so proud to have him as a volunteer.”

When asked about his visits, Jayden said, “I like coming to Queens Court and spending time with all the residents. We have lots of fun together and they really enjoy me playing the piano. When we’ve finished the activity, we sit down and have sandwiches and cake. I really like my Monday afternoons with them all.”

Jayden’s commitment and natural empathy are a beautiful reminder that intergenerational connections can have a powerful impact—and that you’re never too young to make a difference.
