Manton Heights Care Centre in Bedford is excited to launch from the 1st July, “Digging with the Lads”, a new twice-monthly Man Shed initiative inviting men of all ages to come
together to connect, create, and support one another.
Taking place every other Tuesday from 10am to 12pm, the Man Shed is more than just a place to tinker with tools — it’s a welcoming space where stories are shared over cups of tea, friendships are formed, and hands are kept busy with meaningful projects. Whether you’re into woodwork, DIY, or simply enjoy a good conversation in good company, the Man Shed offers a chance to get involved in something purposeful.
Open to residents of Manton Heights, their families, friends, and members of the wider community, the club aims to reduce social isolation, support mental wellbeing, and provide a regular social outlet — particularly for men, who are often less likely to engage in traditional group activities.
Lifestyle Lead Sian, who helped champion the project, shared:
“We wanted to create something that felt relaxed, familiar, and meaningful for the men who live with us — and something they could invite others to be a part of. The Man Shed is already becoming a space where people come alive through doing and sharing.”
The initiative also aligns with Manton Heights’ commitment to supporting person-centred and dementia-friendly activities that respect residents’ past hobbies, interests, and identities.
