Orchard House Care Home Celebrates Outstanding Success at the East of England Regional Great British Care Awards
Orchard House Care Home in Wisbech is celebrating exceptional recognition after enjoying a highly successful evening at the East of England Regional Great British Care Awards, held on 31st October. The Great British Care Awards honour excellence across the social care sector, celebrating individuals and teams whose dedication, innovation, and compassionate commitment make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others.
The team at Orchard House attended the gala evening with pride, having an impressive nine finalists across multiple award categories. Their achievements on the night reflect the skills, passion, and professionalism found throughout the home.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement that Honey Berry, the home’s Dementia Ambassador, won the Palliative Carer / End of Life Award. This award adds to an already remarkable track record, with Honey previously winning both the Dementia Carer Award and the Care Assessor Award at earlier regional ceremonies, alongside being a finalist at the National Great British Care Awards on two occasions. Honey will now go forward to the National Finals in 2026.
In their feedback, the judges said: “Honey Berry’s personal experiences have shaped her profound compassion and dedication to end-of-life care. Her empathy, attentiveness, and professionalism ensure comfort, dignity, and peace for every individual she supports. Her unwavering commitment exemplifies the finest values of humanity and excellence in palliative care.”
There was further cause for celebration as three Orchard House finalists achieved Highly Commended recognition in their categories:
- Miranda Robinson – Lifestyle Lead, Care Home Activity Organiser Award – Highly Commended
Judges praised Miranda’s commitment, saying: “Miranda’s dedication to enhancing residents’ lives through meaningful activities and inclusive engagement is exemplary. Her continuous learning, fundraising initiatives, and celebration of individuality redefine perceptions of care home life. Her energy, compassion, and creativity inspire residents, staff, and the wider community alike.” - Dave Wright – Chef, Care Home Chef Award – Highly Commended
Judges highlighted Dave’s exceptional standards, noting: “Dave Wright impressed the panel with his attention to detail, creativity, and unwavering passion for quality. His transformation of mealtime experiences within the home reflects dedication, artistry, and respect for residents’ preferences. His work enriches daily life, setting a gold standard for care home dining.” - Megan Summers – Care Assessor/Planner Award – Highly Commended
Judges recognised Megan’s thoughtful and person-centred approach:
“Megan Summers impressed the panel with her proactive, person-centred practice and genuine commitment to improving quality of life. Her initiative in leading care planning with creativity and compassion ensures individuals’ voices are heard. Her professionalism, empathy, and drive represent the very best in contemporary care assessment.”
