The team at Brentwood Care Centre is celebrating a truly positive outcome as resident Richard prepares to move into independent living, following a period of recovery and rehabilitation at the home.
Richard joined Brentwood Care Centre in November after a hospital stay following a fall at home. On arrival, he required a high level of support as he recovered, with the team providing assistance with mobility and day-to-day activities.
Over the past five months, Richard has made excellent progress. With a combination of his own determination and the consistent, person-centred support from the nursing and care team, he has steadily rebuilt his strength, confidence, and independence.
Today, Richard is preparing for an exciting next step, moving into his own flat and returning to the independence he previously enjoyed.
Reflecting on his journey, Richard said: 
“When I first came here, I wasn’t aware of anything going on. I was very delirious and couldn’t work out if I was going to be allowed to go home and it was a frightening experience. I have got on with the staff so well and feel so much better in myself. People really brought me out of my shell. Staff look after residents so well, accommodate all care needs, and they are so friendly. I am really looking forward to getting to my new flat. I love cooking, so I’ll really enjoy that again, and I’m also looking forward to coming back to Brentwood Care Centre to volunteer.”
The team is particularly proud of the role nursing care and rehabilitation support have played in Richard’s recovery, ensuring he was supported every step of the way in a safe and encouraging environment.
