Residents and team members at Orchard House Care Home
in Wisbech recently enjoyed an inspiring afternoon in the newly refurbished cinema, welcoming back a familiar face and local fundraiser, Johnathan, for a special presentation.
Johnathan, who has become well known within the home through previous visits and fundraising efforts, shared the story behind his remarkable journey supporting the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). His connection with the home includes taking part in the Christmas Wonderland event, where he helped raise funds through a tombola, supported by residents and the team.
Since 2024, Johnathan has been challenging himself to raise both awareness and funds for the RNLI through long-distance walks. His first major challenge saw him walk 42 miles from Upwell to the RNLI station in Hunstanton over four days, raising more than £3,000.
Building on that success, in May 2025, Johnathan completed another impressive journey, walking from Happisburgh to Hunstanton, stopping at multiple RNLI stations along the way. During his cinema presentation, he spoke about how his fundraising began, the motivation behind his challenges, and his ambitions for the future.
His achievements have seen Johnathan recognised with a Pride of Fenland Award.
His next goal is to complete a full marathon distance of 26 miles—an effort the home is proud to support, with residents and staff planning to take part alongside him.
Following his talk, Johnathan stayed to join in with the afternoon’s activities, helping to draw raffle tickets and announce winners, adding to the sense of occasion.
Miranda, Lifestyle Lead, added: “The cinema provided the perfect setting for Johnathan’s presentation, and residents
were really engaged with his story. It’s always special to support someone who has built such a strong connection with the home, and we’re looking forward to joining him in his next challenge.”
The visit highlighted the importance of community partnerships and shared experiences, with residents continuing to play an active role in supporting local initiatives.
Sarah, General Manager at the home, said: “It was fantastic to welcome Johnathan back and hear more about his journey. His determination and positive energy really resonated with everyone here. Events like this are a great way to bring people together and connect with meaningful causes in the community.”
