Brentwood Care Centre Residents Inspired by Kinder Essex Project Visit

17 February 2025

Residents at Brentwood Care Centre were delighted to take part in a heart-warming visit from Kinder Essex, a Brentwood County Council initiative aimed at spreading kindness and intergenerational connections across the community.

Brentwood’s Kinder Essex coach, Amy Robelou, visited the home to share handwritten inspirational messages from local primary school children in Brentwood. The visit sparked wonderful conversations, reminiscence, and moments of reflection among the residents, as they read through the touching words of encouragement from the children.

Jessie, Brentwood Care Centre’s Lifestyle Lead, shared:
“It was so special to see how much the residents connected with the messages. Reading them out together led to beautiful discussions, with many of the residents reminiscing about their own childhoods and experiences. The visit truly lifted everyone’s spirits.”

Residents Pamela, James, Daphne, and Terry were particularly moved by the notes they received and have chosen to keep them as cherished mementos. Terry has even kept one with him at all times that reads: “If no one believes in you, you should always believe in yourself” – Amy, aged 8.

The visit was a memorable experience for both residents and staff, reinforcing the power of kind words and community connection.

Rhiannon, Brentwood Care Centre’s Customer Relations Manager, added:
“This initiative is a wonderful example of how simple acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. The residents thoroughly enjoyed reading the messages, and it was heart-warming to see the smiles and hear the meaningful conversations that followed.”

Amy, reflecting on the visit, shared on Kinder Essex’s Facebook page:
“Day 5 of launch week, and we have ended the week on a high with a visit to the wonderful Brentwood Care Centre. This week, primary schoolchildren have written some wonderful messages of hope to residents living with dementia. Together, we read through these, drank tea, and put the world to rights.”

The Kinder Essex Project continues to make a positive impact across communities, and Brentwood Care Centre is proud to be part of such an inspiring initiative.
