Residents at Maidstone Care Centre enjoyed a creative and colourful day as they joined the nationwide celebration of Arts in Care Homes Day, which this year
focused on the theme of sustainability and “Going Green.”
Throughout the day, residents took part in a variety of eco-inspired arts and crafts activities. The day began with fruit printing, using colourful prints made from kiwis, grapefruits, apples, and oranges. Later in the morning, residents upcycled glass jars, transforming them into beautiful, personalised decorations with petals, leaves, and natural embellishments.
In the afternoon, creativity continued with residents crafting leafy tealight holders made from real leaves, followed by natural bird feeder making to encourage wildlife into the garden.
Belinda, Lifestyle Lead at Maidstone Care Centre, said: “Today has been a lovely, art-filled day. Residents really enjoyed decoupaging and decorating their own jars with petals and other natural decorations. They also made leafy tealight holders that are currently drying, and everyone loved the fruit printing – it was colourful, messy, and lots of fun! Residents really embraced being arty today and got fully involved.”
Norah, General Manager at Maidstone Care Centre, added: “It’s been wonderful to see so much creativity and enthusiasm from residents. Arts in Care Homes Day is all about connection and expression, and adding a sustainable twist made it even more meaningful. Activities like these not only bring joy but also encourage mindfulness and community spirit.”
The event, inspired by the national campaign led by NAPA (National Activity Providers Association), highlights the importance of creativity and the arts in enhancing wellbeing and quality of life within care settings.
