Woodlands Care Centre marked the 80th Anniversary of VE Day with a memorable afternoon of celebration, filled with music, dancing, and a
sense of togetherness. On Thursday, May 8th, the residents and staff came together to pay tribute to this significant moment in history.
The day began with decorating the lounge, an activity that brought everyone together. Residents eagerly joined in, helping with decorations and blowing up balloons. Some decorations were even generously donated, adding an extra touch of meaning to the occasion. The lounge was transformed into a vibrant and festive space, setting the perfect stage for the celebrations ahead.
As the decorations were finished, the Lifestyle Team took the opportunity to don their best 1940s outfits. Sarah and Sue dressed as Army girls, while Catherine and Louise embraced the role of Land Girls. When they entered the room, the smiles on the residents’ faces were priceless. “The residents were absolutely delighted when they saw the decorations and our outfits,” said Lifestyle Lead Sarah. “It was wonderful to see their reactions, and their faces lit up as they waved their flags and joined in with the festivities.”
The music kicked off with some of the most iconic tunes from the 1940s, including songs by the famous Andrew Sisters. Residents were soon dancing and tapping their feet to the rhythm, creating an atmosphere of joy and nostalgia. The party took on an even more special feel when one relative turned up in a 1940s uniform, bringing his father along, dressed in a matching outfit. It was a touching reminder of the personal connections and memories that VE Day evokes.
General Manager Rubina added, “This celebration was truly heart-warming. Seeing the residents, staff, and families come together in such a lively and joyful way was just incredible. It was a beautiful afternoon of dancing, tea, and scones, and it really brought out the best in everyone.”
The VE Day 80th Anniversary celebrations at Woodlands Care Centre were a fitting tribute to the past, filled with laughter, music, and shared moments that will be cherished for years to come.
