At Withens Nursing Home in Southfleet, the spirit of Christmas shines brightly through acts of kindness and community. This year, the home has embarked on a
heart-warming mission to support Shelter, the charity dedicated to helping people experiencing homelessness.
The initiative began with a simple moment of reflection. Mark, a team member at Withens, and Maureen, a resident, were tidying her wardrobe when Maureen remarked, “It’s such a shame to get rid of all these coats and jumpers.” Recognising an opportunity to make a difference, Mark contacted a friend connected to Shelter. In no time, a donation box was arranged, and the idea quickly gained momentum.
Lifestyle Lead Nadia shared her excitement about the project, saying, “As the temperatures drop, our actions warm up! This holiday season, we wanted to rally together to support those in our community facing challenges. Coats, socks, and jumpers are particularly needed, and we’re so grateful to everyone who has contributed.”
The response from residents, staff, and families has been nothing short of incredible. Donations have poured in, filling the collection box twice already and turning the home’s entrance into a hub of generosity and goodwill.
General Manager Lee Cunningham expressed his pride in the initiative, saying, “This effort reflects the true spirit of Withens Nursing Home—compassion, care, and community. The overwhelming support from everyone here has been inspiring. By coming together to support Shelter, we’re not just sharing warm clothes; we’re sharing warmth of heart and hope for a brighter future. I’m thrilled to see this initiative thrive and look forward to continuing it into 2025.”
Withens Nursing Home’s commitment to supporting Shelter will carry on into the new year, ensuring the partnership has a lasting impact. Donations are still being welcomed, and the home invites the local community to join them in spreading kindness and warmth this festive season.
