Brentwood Care Centre Hosts Successful Slipper Swap Event

Brentwood Care Centre Hosts Successful Community Slipper Swap to Promote Falls Prevention

Brentwood Care Centre  recently welcomed residents, partners and members of the local community to a successful and engaging ‘Slipper Swap’ event, designed to promote safety at home and reduce the risk of slips, trips and falls.

The initiative encouraged guests to exchange worn or unsafe footwear for safer, well-fitting slippers, helping to raise awareness of how small changes can make a significant difference in preventing accidents around the home. Falls remain one of the leading causes of injury for older people, and the event aimed to highlight practical, preventative steps that can support independence and confidence.

The home was delighted to be joined by Jo and Abi from Brentwood Borough Council, Steve and Lucy from Home Instead, Kim, Alliance Delivery Lead, Anna, Community Engagement Representative from Bennetts Funeral Directors and Kim, Occupational Therapist from Sport for Confidence,. Their involvement reflected a shared commitment across local organisations to support older people in staying safe, independent and well within the community.

Maria, General Manager at Brentwood Care Centre, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people come together for such an important cause. Preventing falls is something that can start with very simple changes, like choosing the right footwear. Events like this help raise awareness while also bringing the community together in a positive and practical way.”

Throughout the event, visitors were able to learn more about the importance of well-fitting footwear, speak with professionals about falls prevention strategies, and connect with local services offering additional support. The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere also provided an opportunity for residents and guests to socialise, share experiences and strengthen community connections.

Rhiannon, Customer Relations Manager, who helped organise the event, added: “The Slipper Swap was a brilliant example of local partnerships working. By collaborating with local organisations, we were able to provide helpful advice, resources and reassurance to those who attended. It’s about empowering people with knowledge and small steps that can make a real difference to everyday safety.”

The Slipper Swap event reflects Brentwood Care Centre’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and proactive wellbeing initiatives, ensuring residents and local people alike have access to practical support that promotes safer living.
