Welcome to Withens Nursing Home, in Kent
Situated in a pleasant rural location in a beautiful character building, Withens Nursing Home has been carefully designed to support our residents to live happy, fulfilled and comfortable lives.
Our team cares for our residents with the same kindness and warmth shown to members of their own family. Working closely together, they provide nursing care and end of life care.
Located over two floors, our home includes a light and airy lounge and dining room, as well as a beautiful conservatory overlooking the gardens, spacious bedrooms, and a variety of communal spaces such as a quiet room and hair salon.
Our landscaped gardens are wheelchair accessible and designed to be a welcoming place for people to relax on one of the patios complete with outdoor furniture, or to enjoy a spot of light gardening.
Activities & events
Supporting our residents to enjoy every day living at Withens Nursing Home is a key focus for our dedicated team.
By getting to know each person, we are able to tailor our activities and events to their likes and dislikes as well as activities they may like to try.
No two days are the same here and, alongside our usual daily hobby-based activities, we also like to host events which are a little out of the ordinary.
In addition to keeping fit with chair-based exercises, there are floor games such as skittles and balloon tennis, quizzes, movie afternoons, and art therapy. We also take great pleasure in welcoming entertainers and groups to our home.
Our residents also love relaxing with hand and foot massages and, for those individuals who are nursed in bed, having one-to-one activities with our team. We also look forward to getting dressed up for our themed days throughout the year — complete with themed menus and decorations!

Dementia-friendly activities
Our team takes a considered approach to dementia-friendly activities and meaningful engagement — supporting our residents who live with dementia to still experience happiness, comfort and contentment.
With an in-depth knowledge of people’s life histories, we are able to encourage positive reminiscence and create a safe and supportive environment where people feel comfortable taking part in both familiar and new activities, trips and events.

Food & nutrition
We are proud of the high quality of our meals here at Withens that are carefully designed to be enjoyable whilst providing balanced nutrition to our residents.
They are lovingly cooked and prepared by our in-house catering team and follow the seasons.
Regularly rotating menus ensure we always have meals which cater to our residents’ likes and dislikes, including those who require modified or specialist diets.
To create a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere for our residents to enjoy their mealtimes, our tables are lovingly laid with crisp table linen, menus showing what’s on offer, and cutlery and dinnerware that supports their independence.

Meet the Manager – Gurpreet Vara, General Manager at Withens Nursing Home
With over 16 years’ experience as a trained nurse and five years in care home leadership, Gurpreet brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her role at Withens Nursing Home. Her background includes senior roles in large nursing homes and specialist rehabilitation services, where she developed a strong focus on person-centred care, safeguarding, and staff development.
Gurpreet is driven by the belief that every individual deserves dignity, respect, and meaningful care. She thrives on building supportive environments where residents feel truly at home and her team feel empowered to grow. For her, it’s the personal connections and daily impact that make the work so rewarding.
She describes Withens as a warm and welcoming home set in beautiful countryside, with a dedicated team and a vibrant activities programme that truly enhances residents’ lives.
Outside of work, Gurpreet has a creative background in the arts, a deep-rooted connection to healthcare through her family, and a love for learning new skills.
